Callahan, Frank J., Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother passed away Sunday, October 14, 2012 at Luther Manor Nursing Home. Age 79 years. The son of the late Frank and Ann (Motel) Callahan, Frank was born July 28, 1933 in Saginaw, Michigan. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of American Legion Post #439. Frank married his best friend from high school, Patricia Doyle, his loving wife of 58 years, on July 10, 1954. She survives him. He was employed for 30 years in the trucking industry serving as a dockhand, dispatcher and terminal manager. Frank later owned and operated F.J. Cartage Company until his retirement in 1988. He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Frank was known to have two passions in life: his wife and deer hunting. Frank and Pat established a hunting retreat, the Legacy of Stonehurst, which has been passed on to their children and grandchildren. Surviving besides his wife Pat are three daughters and two sons, Sharon Keene , Saginaw; Peg and Jon Howell, Saginaw; Dan and Ruth Callahan, Saginaw; Tim and Debbie Callahan, Grand Blanc; Katy and Kevin Gregory, Saginaw; extended family, Dave and Denise Railling and Terry Peters, all of Saginaw; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandson; four brothers and two sisters, John and Ruth Callahan, Jeanie and Tom Masica, David Callahan, Bob and Laura Callahan, Patrick Callahan, Janet and Rick Helmer; a sister-in-law, Veronica Callahan and Joyce Callahan; several nieces and nephews. Frank was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Tom Keene, and by two brothers, Mike and Ron Callahan. Honoring Mr. Callahan’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Frank was extremely proud of his Irish heritage so an Irish wake for Frank will take place for friends and family. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Hospice of Michigan.
