Blue, Dorothy Lee (Seward), Saginaw, Michigan

Passed away Sunday, August 12, 2012, at Covenant-Cooper. Age 89 years. Dorothy was born August 23, 1922, in Owosso, Michigan, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Lucile (Hofacker) Seward. She graduated from Corunna High School, received her Bachelor’s of Science degree from Central Michigan University and Master’s degree from the University of Michigan. She was a teacher for thirty-five years in the rural schools in Shiawassee County, and the public schools of Chesaning, Rochester, Owosso and Saginaw, retiring in 1977. The All-Purpose room at Nelle Haley Elementary School was named in her honor by the Saginaw Board of Education. She was a member of Ames United Methodist Church and served as chairperson of the Mary Lydia Circle. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma honorary educational society, and was named Woman of Distinction by the Iota Chapter; a member of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel; Saginaw County and Shiawassee County Chapters; a life member of the N.E.A; a member of the Historical Societies of Michigan, Saginaw County, Shiawassee County, Lapeer County and Columbiaville. She loved flowers and gardening and was a member of the National Farm and Garden Club. She married Robert L. Blue, July 1, 1961. He passed away June 18, 2004. She is survived by her special friends, Dan and Kay Denardo and their son, Danny; Vito and Sue Surian; Robert’s cousins, Dennis and Cheryl Blue. Her sister, Priscilla, passed away in 1967. The funeral service will take place on Thursday, August 16, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the W. L. Case and Co. Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Road. Rev. Mark A. Karls will officiate. Friends may call at the chapel from 10:00 a.m. Thursday until the time of the funeral service. Committal service will take place at 3:00 p.m. Thursday at the Woodlawn Cemetery, Columbiaville, Michigan. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider Ames United Methodist Church or the Dorothy and Robert Blue Educational Scholarship to be set up through the Saginaw Community Foundation.
