Blackney, John Thomas, Saginaw, Michigan

Passed away Saturday, April 7, 2012, at Covenant-Harrison following a lengthy illness. Age 59 years. The son of Jackie (Maier) and the late John Blackney was born June 25, 1952 in Saginaw, Michigan. He married Kerrie J. Mason, May 12, 1984. She survives him. He graduated from Douglas MacArthur High School where he played on their championship basketball team. He later attended and played basketball for Delta College and graduated from Saginaw Valley State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business. He was employed with VanAuken, Graebner and Mason and later Area Independent Underwriters Insurance. He was a member of St. John Episcopal Church and the Salina Lodge #155 F. & A.M. John enjoyed the out-of-doors, golfing and sailing. Surviving besides his wife, Kerrie, and mother, Jackie, are a step-daughter and her husband, Erin A. and Todd R. Shappee, Saginaw, MI; a granddaughter, Madelyn G. Shappee; his sister, Ann M. Johnson, Plymouth, MI; a niece and nephew, Erin M. Johnson and Mark Johnson; several cousins and other relatives. The funeral service will take place on Thursday, April 12, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Episcopal Church, 123 N. Michigan Ave. at Hancock St. The Rev. Daniel Cannon will officiate with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the W. L. Case and Co. Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Road, from 2:00-5:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. Wednesday.
