Adams, William, Bridgeport, Michigan


Went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 20, 2012. Bill was born in Saginaw to Samuel and Marie (Kegley) Adams on March 14, 1926. He served in WWII in the 5th Marine Division, Carlson’s Raiders, and was on Iwo Jima at the raising of the flag. He leaves one surviving brother, Al Adams of Saginaw. Bill married Mary Agnes Barrett on June 7, 1947. She passed away in 1998. Their youngest child, Richard Barrett Adams, went to be with the Lord in April 1999. Bill’s surviving children are Victoria Adams of Saginaw, Mary Potts of Hemlock, William L. Adams, Jr. (Melanie) of Benton City, Washington, Sharon Platteschorre (Ken) of Grand Rapids, Jean Engels of Auburn, Joan Bethune (Steve) of Grand Haven, and Lynda Beck (Chris) of Hemlock. Grandchildren include Heather Lavrack (Donnie) of Saginaw, Sgt. Jeremy Adams of El Paso, Texas, Justin, Emily, Haley Bethune, Will Bauer, Jon Beck, Gabrielle, Ryan, Annabelle Adams, Andrew Grgrich, Great Grandchildren include Jazmin Adams, Ashlee Chisolm, Wyatt Adams and Aiden Adams. He married Dorothy Stock in 1978. She predeceased him in 1991. Stepchildren from that marriage are Pam Bronz (Gary) of Saginaw, Michael Stock (Sue) of Prescott, Arizona, Sharon Heilbronn (Dr. Duane Heilbronn) of Saginaw and Clifford Stock who predeceased them in 1979. Many additional step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren survive him. Bill’s last marriage was to Marion Schluckebier in 1995. Stepchildren from that marriage are Don Schluckebier (Linda), Jim Schluckebier (Connie), Roxanne Lelo (Walt), Patti Schomaker (Paul who is predeceased) and Debbie Popp (Steve) all of Bridgeport and numerous further step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren survive him. Bill and Marion were members of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Bridgeport where they gave much of their time and service. Bill was a Lifetime Member and past Director of the Bridgeport Gun Club, a 25 year volunteer on the Bridgeport Fire Department, for 28 years he was a milkman for Superior Dairies, and retired as a 20 year Teamster Driver for Bruce Cartage and a member of Local No. 486. Bill was also a member of the VFW Post #9931 and American Legion Post #22. Bill’s children extend a very special thanks to the nurses and staff of Grace Hospice for their very special care of our father. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at W. L. Case and Company, 5700 Dixie Highway, Bridgeport. Rev. Ratchel Lauchlin will officiate with military burial at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral chapel on Tuesday from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from noon until the time of the funeral service.
