Zehnder, Lois Jean, Saginaw, Michigan


Passed away Saturday, August 27, 2011, at the Cartwright Care Residence. Age 78 years. The daughter of the late William P. and Lula Helen (McLaury) O’Donnell was born March 29, 1933 in Saginaw, Michigan. She married John C. Zehnder, August 21, 1954. He survives her. She was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church. Lois had been employed by Michigan National Bank and by Dr. Gardner. She was devoted to her family and was active in the P.T.A. and Cub Scouts when her boys were growing up. She was known as “the Queen of the Kitchen” and made the best chocolate chip cookies in the world. She was an avid knitter, knitting afghans for just about everyone in the family and sweaters for anyone that wanted one. She also knitted literally hundreds of dish cloths and hanging hand towels for friends and relatives. Surviving besides her husband, John, are four children and their spouses, William J. and Diane Zehnder, Lake Isabella, MI; James P. Zehnder and Kathryn Rupprecht, Houghton Lake, MI; Kenneth C. and C.J. Zehnder, Saline, MI; Marcia Lou and Doug Plonta, Saginaw, MI; Ten grandchildren, John and Traci Zehnder, Angela Moyer and her husband, Eric; Lee Ann Mathis and her husband Troy; Kerri Wenzel and her husband Matthew; Michelle Wallace and her husband Brian; Trevor, Jacob, Merredith and Gabrielle Zehnder; seven great grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Lou Buckel and her husband, Charles, Cocoa Beach, FL; Janice Hurley, Bay City, MI; several nieces and nephews. The funeral liturgy will take place on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Stephen Catholic Church, 1310 Malzahn St., Saginaw. Rev. James G. Heller will officiate with burial in St. Andrew Cemetery. Friends may call at the Church from 2:00-5:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. Tuesday where a vigil service will be held at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider St. Stephen Catholic Church.
