Ybanez, Rudy Garcia, Merrill, Michigan

Went to his heavenly home to be with his beloved wife Mamie on Sunday, December 4, 2011. Age 85 years. He was born July 26, 1926, in Karnes, Texas, the son of the late Jose and Guadalupe Garcia Ybanez. He served with the US Navy during World War II. He retired from General Motors Grey Iron Foundry after many years of service. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Merrill, and of the Fr. Neuman Council #2291 Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of American Legion Post #439. He was an avid sports fan, enjoying the Detroit Tigers, any Texas sports team, and wrestling. He also enjoyed working in his garden and watching the Food Network. He came in to everyone’s lives and took the role of a father for many people. He will be deeply missed. He married Mamie Meza on November 16, 1974; she predeceased him April 10, 2004. He is survived by his honorary children, Theresa J. Castillo and Henry Paul Castillo Sr.; his “angels”, Concepcion McAskill, Alexandra McAskill, and Brian Joseph McAskill; three brothers, Alex, Richard (Irene), and Jesse (Yolanda) Ybanez; many loving nieces, nephews and their families. He was predeceased by nine brothers and sisters, and by two special nieces, Linda M. Castillo and Jessica Ann Castillo. Funeral Liturgy will take place on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 419 S. Midland Road, Merrill. Rev. Fr. Craig Carolan will officiate with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Military honors will be under the auspices of VFW Post #1566. Rudy’s family will receive friends at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Road, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday where a Rosary led by the Fr. Neuman Council #2291 Knights of Columbus, will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday. Friends and family may then call at the church from 10:00 a.m. Wednesday until the time of Mass.
