Windquist, Edwin E., Saginaw, Michigan

Passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at Spectrum Health Blodgett Hospital in Grand Rapids at the age of 85 years. Edwin was born May 12, 1925, in Big Rapids, Michigan to the late Albin and Emma (Nyman) Windquist. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He married Virginia Cressey in 1948 and she predeceased him in 1984. He then married Jane (Rosas) Gamez in 1986 and she predeceased him in 2007. He was an Independent Insurance Agent and Real Estate Broker. He also worked as a private pilot, a horticulturist, and a boiler maker. He was a member of First Assembly of God where he served as head usher and church gardener. He is survived by his children, Terry Windquist and Paul (Wendy) Windquist; step-children, David (Vivian) Gamez, and Esther (Rev. Elias) Gonzales; grandchildren, Tyler Windquist and Jason (Lynn) Watkins; 6 step-grandchildren; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Adam, and Eddie Watkins; and many step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elsie House and Gladys Webster; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Everett Windquist and Beatrice Finch. Funeral services will take place on Monday, March 28, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at First Assembly of God Church, 4570 Mackinaw Road. Rev. Fred Smolchuck Jr. will officiate with burial to follow in Floral Gardens Cemetery in Bay City under the auspices of V.F.W. Post #1859 in Carrollton. Friends may visit with the family at church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Grand Rapids Veterans Home 3000 Monroe Ave. N.W.
