Wilder, David T., Saginaw, Michigan

Surrounded by his loving family, Dave succumbed to the devastating Lou Gehrig’s Disease (ALS) on September 25, 2011. Age 64 years. It was a courageous battle, and he fought the fight until there wasn’t an ounce of muscle strength left. Dave was born in Orlando, FL on April 19, 1947 to Jayne Strong and the late Edward Wilder. Left behind to cherish his memory are his wonderful family; loving wife, Carol (Doman), and parents Kas and Jayne Kaske (Ocala, FL), 5 children and their families: Tiffany and Jeremy Engel, Brooklyn, Alex, Mason, and great granddaughter Aubrey (Traverse City), Matthew Wilder (Bay City), and sons Mason and Emery; Christopher and Kristi Wilder, and Aiden and Alissa, (Saginaw); Daniel and Carla Wilder, and Sullivan, Stella, Liam, and Jane (Webberville, MI); and Russell Wilder and Amanda Amburgey, Lily and Julian (Plymouth, MI). He also leaves behind the mother of his children, Fay Wilder (Galien, MI); and his 4 sisters and 1 brother to also treasure his memory: Dianne Wilder (Ocala, FL), April and Mike Stiefel (Cedar Springs, MI), Scott and Dawn Wilder (Cedar Springs, MI), Melody Wilder (Chesapeake, VA), and Debra Wilder (Semmes, AL). As well as several nieces and nephews whom he also adored. Dave had many many special friends whom he cared about deeply. He inspired all of us with his sense of humor, gregarious nature, his words of wisdom, or just a great story; and he really was an inspiration as to how to live one’s life….with love, appreciation, and dignity, especially during his illness. And despite the gravity of this devastating disease he maintained such an upbeat, positive outlook, just like always. Dave worked for Con-Way Freight as a Sales Account Executive for the past 13 years. He previously served as a volunteer fireman with the Saginaw Township Fire Station, # 2. Dave was also a longtime trivia buff, card player, and he loved softball, coaching, golf, tennis, music, and dancing. In fact, the weekend he passed away all of his favorite teams won -- MSU Spartans, Detroit Tigers, and even our Detroit Lions! Dave was a hands-on father and grandfather and loved his children and grandkids more than anything; so proud of all of them. He will no doubt leave a positive, lasting impression with each and every one of us, and he’ll be dearly missed. One of his co-workers recently wrote in a card, with such truth, Dave was much too special of a person to be struck down by such a horrific disease! Per Dave’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service to celebrate and honor his life will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at 11:30 a.m. at the W. L. Case Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Road, Saginaw. Friends are welcome to visit with the family from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the Hospice of Michigan (Saginaw), ALS Association of Michigan, or MDA/ALS (Saginaw chapter). The Wilder family would also like to extend our sincerest appreciation to all of our “earth angels” from Hospice, ALS Association, and MDA for your extraordinary care and guidance. www.casefuneralhome.com
