Whitehead, Helene Dorothy (Bell), Saginaw, Michigan


Passed away peacefully October 26, following a long illness. Born to Birdie B. and Mary (Culver) Bell on April 26, 1923, in Morganfield, Kentucky. Married William Whitehead on October 25, 1942, in Evansville, Indiana. Calling Saginaw Michigan home since 1947, Helene was active in the Junior League, and volunteered as a Pink Lady at Saginaw General (now Covenant) Hospital for decades. She was an accomplished watercolorist, and enjoyed miniatures, needlepoint, golf, bridge, and entertaining. Helene was a member of Garden Club Four, Saginaw Art Museum, Saginaw Country Club, and Saginaw Club. For many years she wintered in Florida with her husband, Bill, who survives her. Also surviving are son Jett, daughter-in-law Shelley, son-in-law Ron Stanton, and grandchildren Heather (Scott) Stanton-Rudy, William (Nicole) Stanton, Kent Stanton, six great-grandchildren, and three sisters. Helene’s daughter, Linda Stanton, and three sisters predeceased her. Helene’s family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the wonderful caregivers and staff at Edgewood Assisted Living, and to her special caring friend, Dorothy Grady, for their sincere love and uncompromising support. Funeral service will be held on Monday, October 31, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 123 N. Michigan Ave., Saginaw. Visitation with the family will be held on Sunday October 30, 2011 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at Case Funeral Home, 4480 Mackinaw, and on Monday at 10:00 a.m. at the church.
