Wenzel, Garnet Lois, Saginaw, Michigan

Our beloved wife, mother and grandmother went to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ after a two year battle with cancer, during which her husband, Dan, never left her side April 18, 2011, age 78 years. Garnet was born in Marion Township, Michigan January 15, 1933 the daughter of the late Herbert and Celia (Smith) Carstensen. She graduated as the Valedictorian from Merrill High School in 1951. She attended Delta College and received her Associates Degree in 1978. She graduated from Saginaw Valley State University in 1982 with a Bachelors Degree in Social Work. She married Daniel B. Wenzel July 26, 1952 in Marion Springs, Michigan at St. John Lutheran Church and he survives her. Garnet was devoted to her grandchildren, taking them to the Saginaw Art Museum and the Saginaw Children’s Zoo. She enjoyed painting, music and playing bridge. She was a member of the Midland Center for the Performing Arts. She was also very active in her church activities. In addition to her husband, Garnet is survived by two sons, Jeffrey Daniel (Vickie) Wenzel and Rick Alan (Tamara) Wenzel, all of Thomas Township; a daughter, Michelle Sue (Tim) Beiser of Bay City; nine grandchildren, Bethany (Aaron) Berton, Katie and Danielle Wenzel, Jason, Jessica and Jenna Wenzel, Zachary, Gabriel and Evan Beiser; two brothers, Dale (Jeannie) Carstensen and Lee (Alice) Carstensen; a sister, Virginia (Cecil) Stephen; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The funeral service will take place on Thursday, April 21, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Ascension Lutheran Church, 8695 Gratiot Road. Rev. Denise Gundersen will officiate with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit with the family at W. L. Case & Company, 201 N. Miller Road, Wednesday from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. and on Thursday at church from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service. www.casefuneralhome.com
