Ward Jr., William E., Saginaw Township, Michigan

Beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away Friday, March 11, 2011 at the Cartwright Hospice Residence. Age 81 years. The son of the late William and Anna (Dugan) Ward, Bill was born on July 28, 1929 in Springfield, Ohio. He married Helen L. Ullom, his loving wife of 60 years, on August 19, 1950. She survives him. He began his career at Crowell-Collier Publishing Co, in Springfield Ohio, then worked for Railway Express Agency,(REA) in Springfield, Ohio, and transferred to Saginaw, Michigan, in 1966 as manager of REA terminal. He then went to work for Associated Truck Lines (ANR) and retired from ANR in December, 1990. He was active in many civic organizations, starting with United Commercial Travelers of America, Past Counselor of Saginaw Council #43 and Past Grand Counselor of the Michigan Grand Council; a member of Knights of Columbus Council #4232, a Officer in Tri-County Ostomy Support Group, a member of Teamsters #486 Retirees Club, He was a member at St. George Catholic Church, where he was a Eucharistic minister, usher, member of Church Finance Committee, and the St. George Men’s Club. He later attended St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. William was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved to travel and is very proud that he visited all 50 States and a number of foreign countries including two trips to Ireland where he was able to kiss the famous Blarney Stone. In his youth, he loved to fish the streams and rivers in Ohio, was active in sports and later loved to play games with his family including wiffle ball in the side yard on Lynnwood Avenue in Saginaw or many games of euchre or 31. He also loved to talk about growing up in Springfield Ohio, running around with the gang on York Street and his early days of working at the printing company. He always had a story, joke or phrase to say about everything. His favorite saying was “Top O’ the mornin’ to you” expecting your response “and the rest of the day to you.” Surviving besides his wife Helen are two sons and one daughter, William E. and Amy Ward III, Bay City; Christina and Mitchell Donnenwerth, Saginaw; Dennis Paul Ward, Grand Rapids; 5 grandsons, John (Michelle) Kraut, Brandon Ward, Brian Donnenwerth and his fiancée Hannah Wicks, Patrick and David Donnenwerth; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Judith Ann and Donald Finch, Dixon, Illinois; one brother, Michael and JoLynn Ward, Mt. Morris, Illinois; several nieces and nephews. Funeral Liturgy will take place on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. George Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Randy Kelly will officiate with interment to follow in St. Andrew Cemetery. Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road, (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Monday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Knights of Columbus Council #4232 will pray the rosary at 3:00 p.m. and a Vigil Service will take place at 7:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
