Wallaert, Geraldine A. “Gerry”, James Township, Michigan


Passed away peacefully at home Wednesday October 26, 2011. Age 85 years. Geraldine Amanda Hodges was born July 6, 1926 to the late Charles and Louise (Wegner) Hodges. She married Clarence C. Wallaert May 1, 1948. They shared 63 years together and he survives her. Gerry was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and its Altar Society. She was also a member of Women of the Moose Chapter 420. Gerry was a deputy clerk for Saginaw County for 15 years, retiring in 1988. She enjoyed bowling, water aerobics, volleyball, cruises, attending sporting events, and spending time with her family. Surviving besides her husband are six children, Clarence Wallaert, Jr., Gary (Beverly) Wallaert, Connie (Thomas) Shaft, Bonnie (Ret. Col. James C.) Harper, April (Terry) Muter, and Roger (Debby) Wallaert; 12 grandchildren, Gerrud (Kelly) Wallaert, Galen Wallaert, Jeffrey Shaft, Thomas (Jenny) Shaft, Jr., Elisabeth Harper, Kimberly (Corey) Lesniak, Jennifer Harper, Traci (Derk) Belt, Paula (Jim) Bedford, Jamie Muter, Jo Ann (Brian) Poplewski and Kerry Wallaert; two step-grandchildren, Bruce and Terry Unger; six great grandchildren; one sister Carol Wilhelm; one brother Donald Hodges; her best friend/sister-in-law Karen (Marvin) Wallaert; and many nieces and nephews. Gerry was predeceased by one granddaughter Kristina Shaft; three sisters, Lorraine Zawacki, Doris Hodges and Edna Briggs; and one brother Charles Hodges. Mass of Christian burial will take place on Saturday October 29, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1035 N. River Road. Fr. David Parsch will officiate with interment to follow at St. Andrews Catholic Cemetery. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the Reitz Herzberg Funeral Home, 1550 S. Midland Road (South M-47) on Friday from noon-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. and at the church on Saturday one hour before the service. A prayer service will take place at 7:00 p.m. Friday.
