Volz, Lena M., Saginaw, Michigan


Beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away Sunday September 25, 2011. Age 91 years. Lena May Jackson was born August 27, 1920 in Caro to the late Roy and Lucy (Gould) Jackson. She was the last surviving child out of eight children and a 35-year breast cancer survivor. She married Herbert E. Volz August 17, 1940. They shared 71 years together before his death June 25, 2011. Mrs. Volz was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church. She was also involved with the St. John Ladies Aid, was a life member of both the VFW Auxiliary and the DAV Auxiliary. Mrs. Volz was a beautician in Saginaw and Midland before her marriage. She loved to travel, read, write, cook, and decorate her home. She also enjoyed flower gardening and bird watching. Most importantly, she was always interested in the lives of her children and grandchildren. Surviving are two sons and one daughter, Herbert E. (Pat) Volz, Jr., Timothy M. (Debbie) Volz, and Kaye M. (Ron) Schultz; nine grandchildren, Kerrie, Brian, Stan, Mary, Herbert, Thomas, Andrew, Justin, and Kyle; and four great grandchildren, Lane, Wyatt, Herbie, and Isabella. She was predeceased by her son Thomas R. Volz. Funeral service will take place on Friday September 30, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, 915 Federal. Rev. Paulette Cummings will officiate with interment to follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the Reitz Herzberg Funeral Home, 1550 S. Midland Road (S. M-47) on Thursday from 2:00-8:00 p.m. and at the church on Friday one hour before the service.
