Ulrey, Jerry L., Saginaw, Michigan


Loving husband, step-father and grandfather passed away Friday, July 8, 2011 at Covenant HealthCare – Cooper Campus. Age 70 years. Son of the late Jack and Geraldine (Yockey) Ulrey, Jerry was born June 24, 1941 in Saginaw, Michigan.  He served in the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1962 and was a member of Disabled American Veterans. Jerry married Hesper E. Barker, his loving wife of 37 years, on December 29, 1973. She survives him. Jerry was employed at Saginaw Metal Casting Operations as an electrician from 1962 to 2004. He was past president of U.A.W. Local 688 Retired Workers Chapter and chairman of U.A.W. Area 5 (Saginaw County) Retired workers. Jerry was a Registered Parliamentarian of the National Association of Parliamentarians, Study Chairman, Bylaw Chairman and former President. He served as Chairman of Rules Committee of the United Way of Saginaw, Chairman of Rules Committee of the Saginaw County Democratic Party, Vice President and Chairman of the Saginaw Area Democratic Club, Saginaw Community Foundation Fund Distribution Committee, Bridge Center of Racial Harmony, life member of Michigan Coalition of Responsible Gun Owners and life time member of Pioneer-Salina Lodge #77 Free and Accepted Masons.  Surviving besides his wife Hesper are three step-sons, three step-daughters and their spouses, Gary and Linda Osborn, Essexville; David and Sandra Osborn; Bridgeport; Bruce and Donna Osborn, Albertville, Alabama; Loretta Averill; Saginaw; Barbara and Timothy Yax, Saginaw; Cheryl and David  Berent, Saginaw; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; his sister, Karen and James Rathbun; four brothers, Dick and Sharon Ulrey, Don and Nancy Ulrey, Bob and Diane Ulrey, Jim and Beverly Ulrey; many nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his daughter, Jill Ulrey.  Funeral Service will take place on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road (between Shattuck and McCarty). Pastor James Rathbun will officiate. Entombment will take place in Roselawn Memorial Mausoleum with Military Services conducted by American Legion Post #439. Friends may call at the funeral home where the family will be present on Monday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. The Saginaw Masonic Lodge # 77 will conduct a service at 7:00 Monday at the funeral home.
