Sprague, Gary Edward, Saginaw, Michigan

Went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, August 17, 2011 at the age of 71. Gary was born April 23, 1940 in Saginaw, Michigan and attended Saginaw High School where he met and later married his first wife Jean (Wirth) Sprague. Together they had four children Shari, Scott, Kevin and Amy. Gary proudly served in the United States Marine Corps as a young man. He worked at Saginaw Malleable Iron for 10 years before retiring due to his health. Gary suffered from Multiple Sclerosis for the last 32 years of his life, but he would not let this debilitating disease keep him from enjoying life and telling everyone he met about how his faith in Jesus Christ brought him out of the despair of this disease into a joy and peace- filled life. Gary frequently encouraged others with scripture and was often heard singing praises to His Lord. Through the last 11 years of his battle with MS Gary was determined that he would walk again; we take comfort in knowing that he is now “walking tall” with Jesus. When Gary could no longer live at home, he moved into Martin Luther Nursing Home where he was the first resident to have a computer. The computer opened up a new world for him, where he could communicate with his family and friends near and far. Using the internet, Gary was able to encourage many people by sharing his testimony of how God changed his life. It was through the computer, at age 65, Gary met his wife Sheryl (Ginaven) Sprague of Crown Point, Indiana. Together Gary and Sheryl shared their love for Jesus Christ through their local church and reaching out to support many missionaries and mission agencies. Gary was preceded in death by his mother Lorraine Pohlman; daughter Shari; son Scott; his dear Aunt Joyce; and close friend and caregiver Filiberto Reyes. Gary is survived by his wife Sheryl; son Kevin (Deb); daughter Amy (Bill) Booth; brothers Robert (Bud), Donald and Rick Sprague; Gary had many “GRAND”children, cousins and friends that he loved. A special thank you to the staff at Saginaw Senior Care Center for the many years of care you provided Gary. A memorial service will be held on Saturday August, 20, 2011 at Old Town Christian Outreach Center 600 Gratiot Ave. There will be an hour of fellowship time with friends and family at 4 pm, the memorial service will start at 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to; Old Town Christian Outreach Center 600 Gratiot Ave., Saginaw, MI 48602. www.casefuneralhome.com
