Slater, Duane E. (Duke), Bridgeport, Michigan

Passed away on Thursday, November 10, 2011 after a three year battle following a spinal injury. Duane is now golfing on the Heavenly golf courses! The son of the late Elmer and Lela (Kahl) Slater was born on December 28, 1936 in Ohio. He married Mary Knodel in December 1953; she survives him. Duke retired from Saginaw Steering Gear in 1995 after 30 years of service. Duane enjoyed golfing, following Michigan sports and especially spending time with his grandchildren. Surviving besides his wife, Mary are their children; Debbie (Jim) Sivey of Merrill, Dennis (Lisa) Slater of Bay City, Darin Slater of Portage, MI, David (Maris) Slater of Cedar Point NC, and Dean (Melissa) Slater of Monroe, MI; 13 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren ; 5 brothers and three sisters and many nieces and nephews and his great longtime friend Pete Bishop. Duane was predeceased by a sister. The family wishes to thank and send many blessing to their extended family at Tendercare of Frankenmuth for all their love and support. In accordance to Duane's wishes cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
