Ruhlig, Robert F., Saginaw, Michigan


Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather went to be with his Lord on August 9, 2011. Age 77 years. Robert was born to Frederick and Gertrude M. (Schultz) Ruhlig on November 16, 1933. Robert was married to Shirley Kelly on August 20, 1955 and shared nearly 56 years together. Their union was blessed with two daughters and one son; Marna (Jim) Ross; Brenda (Michael) Wolpert; Matthew (Gina) Ruhlig; grandchildren, Kurt and Meghan Wolpert; Aaron (Molly) Smith; Allison (Nick) Gillespie; Amy Smith; Mia, Lucy and Gabrielle Ruhlig; great-grandchildren, Brady and Brenna Smith. He also leaves to his loss, his brother Glenn (Barbara) Ruhlig, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Gertrude and Fred Ruhlig; sister, Doris and her husband, Ralph Ziegler; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Margaret and Howard Kelly. He served in the U. S. Army from 1955 – 1957. Robert retired from Michigan National Bank after 30 years and then owned and operated Sundquist Travel for 20 years. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Bob had a creative mind and loved theatre, travel, and most of all spending time with his family. He was especially proud of the successes of his children and grandchildren. Funeral and committal services will take place on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 808 Weiss. The Rev. Michael Korte will officiate. Burial will follow at a later date in Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the Wakeman Funeral Home, Inc., 1218 N. Michigan Ave. on Friday from 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., then at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Memorial contributions may be given to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Great Lakes Bay Miracle League, or the City Rescue Mission.
