Prottenger, George William, Saginaw, Michigan

Our loving husband, father, grandfather (Pooh & Pops), great-grandfather, uncle, brother and friend passed away Saturday, February 26, 2011 at his home with his family at his side, age 78 years. George was born in Saginaw, Michigan January 6, 1933 the son of the late Theodore and Paula (Wilson) Prottenger. He married the love of his life, Nancy Young, February 7, 1953 and she survives him. They resided in Saginaw their entire married life. He retired from Saginaw Manufacturing in 1992. George was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean War. He loved spending time with his family at home or on their family vacations. In addition to his wife, George is survived by two sons and a daughter, George (Roxanne) Prottenger II, Dick (Cindy) Prottenger, Tracy (Jeff) Bullard, all of Saginaw; eight grandchildren, Tony Johnson and partner, Jennifer Thomas, Rachel (James) Mull, Michael Bullard, Amy Prottenger and her fiancée, Ryan Mauro, Ronnie Bullard, Alex Prottenger and Stevie Ray Prottenger; five great-grandchildren, Jackie, Gabe, Christian, Cameron and Jake; a sister, Ruth (Marty) Turner; his brother, John Prottenger; three sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Peggy Ramsden, Pat (John) Hodgson and Judy (Duane) Hoffman; an aunt and uncle, Lorna and Fred Dietzel; his life long friends, Jerry Ramsden and Frank Naples; many nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by his loving father-in-law and mother-in-law, Richard and Sadie Young. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 4, 2011 at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 2280 Williamson Road, Saginaw. Rev. Fr. Joseph Schabel will officiate. Friends may visit with the family at the hall on Friday from12:00 noon until 4:00 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a donation to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the Humane Society of Saginaw County.
