Porath, Erwin V., Sterling, MI, Formerly of Saginaw, Michigan


Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away Friday, July 29, 2011 at St. Mary’s Medical Center. Age 85 years. The son of the late Erwin F. and Helen (Klopf) Porath, Erwin was born September 16, 1925 in Saginaw, Michigan. He served the U.S. Navy during WW II and was a member of American Legion Post #439. He married Camilla Abbey, his loving wife of 62 years, on November 25, 1948. She survives him. Erwin owned and operated Porath Studio for 44 years until his retirement. He served on the board for Arenac County Parks and Recreation. He enjoyed golfing, gardening and spending time with his family. Surviving besides his wife Camilla are five sons, one daughter and their spouses, Michael and Pamela Porath, Hopewell Junction, New York; Curtis and Fay Porath, Swartz Creek; Sue and William Berg, Saginaw; Mark and Sue Porath, Saginaw; David and Stephanie Porath, Saginaw; Dan and Diane Porath, Saginaw; 11 grandchildren, Stephen, Patrick, Elizabeth, Julie (Allen), Christine, Lindsay, Shauna, Meghan, Gregory, Eric and Hannah; three great-grandchildren; three sisters and one brother, Arlene Haynes, Jo (Floyd) Zdrojkowski, Carol (Jude) Synwelski, Robert (Winn) Porath; many nieces and nephews. Erwin was preceded in death by a brother, Milton Porath. Funeral Liturgy will take place on Monday, August 1, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. William Taylor will officiate. Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery where military honors will be presented by American Legion Post #439. Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road, (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Sunday from noon to 5:00 p.m. and at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass.
