Popielarz, Rufus F., Saginaw, Michigan


Beloved father and grandfather passed away Sunday, June 5, 2011 at his home after celebrating his 80th birthday party with his family. The son of the late Francis and Martha (Dammer) Popielarz, Rufus was born June 11, 1931 in Bay City, Michigan. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Rufus married Nancy L. Gulvas on October 20, 1956. She predeceased him November 12, 1997. He was employed at C&O and CSX Railroad for 37 years until his retirement. Rufus was a member of St. Casimir Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council #593. He enjoyed playing the dice game “10,000” with Cindy. Surviving are one daughter and four sons, Shari and Patrick Crofton, Hemlock; James Popielarz and Brian Popielarz, both of Saginaw; Donald and Anglau Popielarz, Montrose; Scott and Cindy Popielarz, Saginaw; eight grandchildren, Donald Popielarz Jr., Kathleen Popielarz, Courtney and Thomas Crofton, Aaron and Hannah Popielarz, Michael and Carol Crofton. Funeral Liturgy will take place on Saturday, June 11, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Casimir Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Reginaldo Salcedo will officiate. Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery where military honors will be presented by American Legion Post #439. Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road, (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and at St. Casimir Catholic Church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass. The Knights of Columbus Council #593 will pray the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
