Plater, Gerald E., Saginaw, Michigan

Passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at Covenant HealthCare – Cooper. He was 82 years of age. Gerald Edward Plater was born on April 16, 1929 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Edward and Ella (Witz) Plater. He married Joan Reinert on September 10, 1949 in Saginaw. She predeceased him on January 13, 2007. Jerry graduated from Arthur Hill High School in 1947 then he attended Bay City Junior College. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. In the Air Force he taught electronics and helped develop anti-aircraft guns. Jerry retired as a Branch Operation Manager for Honeywell after 37 years. He enjoyed playing golf and loved watching Michigan Football. Surviving are two daughters and a son: Nancy (Richard) Rummel of Reese, MI, Sally Reittenbach and John Greathouse of Saginaw, MI, and Gary (Cheryl) Plater of Woodhaven, MI; five grand children: Jennifer (Kevin) Lowrie-James, Richard G. (Anessa) Rummel, Cory (Eric) Hill, David Height Jr. and Jeremy Escamilla; eight great grandchildren: Noelle, Mackenzie, Grace, Peyton, Jazmin, Riley, Jaxon, and Mariano and three brothers: Robert (Nadira) Plater, William (Cynthia) Plater, and Edward (Deborah) Plater. Jerry was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary MacConnel, Judith Gamble, and Betty Benjamin. Gerald’s Memorial Service will take place on Friday, December 9, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Road (off State). The burial of Gerald’s cremated remains will take place in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Rev. Ken Parker will officiate with the burial. Military Services will be conducted under the auspices of American Legion Post 439. Friends are welcome to visit with Gerald’s family at Deisler Funeral Home on Friday, December 9, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
