Pantel, Samuel, Linwood, Michigan

Passed away Sunday, August 7, 2011. Age 82 years. The son of the late Christ and Despina (Konti) Christides was born July 9, 1929 in Detroit. Samuel served with the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a graduate of Michigan State University. He was employed by Lockheed Martin as Technical Editor in the Space and Missle Systems, retiring in 1989. He was an active member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, serving on the Church Board of Directors and involved with the choir and glee club. He also enjoyed golf, walking, music, fishing and was an avid reader. He married Susan Sidow on September 16, 1989. She survives him. He also leaves a son and daughter and their spouses, William and Lori Pantel, Citrus Heights, CA; Antoinette and John Michael, Atherton, CA; a step-daughter and her husband, Amy and Duane Huismann, Grand Rapids, MI; six grandchildren, Lars and Ken Pantel; Amanda, Matthew, Lucas and Isabella Michael; two sisters and their husbands, Markel and Harold Rouse, Clarkston, MI; Bo and William Tarachas, Linwood, MI; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and a brother Paul Christy. The funeral service will take place on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 4970 Mackinaw Road, Saginaw. Fr. Irenaeus Cox will officiate with burial in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the W. L. Case and Co. Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Road, from 3:00-8:00 p.m. Monday where the Trisagion service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friends may then call at the Church from 9:00 a.m. Tuesday until the time of the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the Parkinson’s Foundation or the Alzheimer’s Association.
