Meyer, Catherine E. “Katie”, Freeland, Michigan

Katie passed away peacefully on Saturday April 30, 2011 at Covenant Medical Center-Cooper with her family at her side. Catherine Elizabeth Kelbey was born July 28, 1916 in Saginaw to the late Frank and Corletta (Lester) Kelbey. She was married to Don F. Meyer on November 21, 1951, whom predeceased her October 2, 1977. Katie graduated from Saginaw High in 1934, after which she worked for Lufkin Rule for several years. Katie was a faithful volunteer for the Saginaw Community Hospital (HealthSource) for over 30 years. She had attended the Methodist Church and was a Sunday school teacher in earlier years. Katie enjoyed life’s simple pleasures such as reading, and watching t.v. Katie had numerous hobbies over the years including bowling, dancing, embroidery, bingo and her “favorite” being garage sales. Katie was an amazing young “94” year old who still was driving and living an independent life. Katie leaves to cherish her memory, 4 children; Patricia Savage, Freeland, James (Dawn) Meyer, Ann Arbor, Robert (Ginger) Meyer, Freeland, Jack (Lori) Meyer, Cordova, TN., 8 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and 2 sisters; Glendile Stellwag and Laura Frendscho. She was also predeceased by her son in-law; Jerry Savage, sister; Dorothy Kuhlman and grandson; Mark Funeral and committal services will be held on Thursday May 5, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Freeland Chapel of the Cunningham-Taylor Funeral Homes, Inc. (Washington Ave. & 2nd Sts.). Rev. James L. Rule will officiate. Entombment will be at Chapel Hill Mausoleum (Freeland). Katie’s family will receive friends at the Freeland Chapel on Wednesday from 5:00-8:00 p.m., and on Thursday morning from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy, envelopes for the Humane Society or American Lung Association will be available at the funeral home.
