Melzo, Opal D., Saginaw, Michigan

Passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2011, at the Cartwright Care Residence. Age 95 years. The daughter of the late Fred and Mildred (Sanborn) Bosserdet was born August 28, 1916 in Lennon, Michigan. She married Theodore F. Melzo Sr., November 23, 1940. He passed away January 24, 1983. She was one of the “Rosie the Riveters”, working at Saginaw Steering Gear during WWII. She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and worked the funeral luncheons. She was a member of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary #593. She enjoyed bingo, the slot machines and baking, but most of all her grandchildren, their activities and playing ball with them. Surviving are a daughter, a son and their spouses, Shirley Ann ( LaFray) and Toivo Kiisk, Saginaw; Theodore F. Melzo Jr. and his wife Barbara, Sun Valley, NV; five grandchildren, Beth Kiisk-Milanowski and her husband Robert; Lisa Melzo; Craig Melzo; Christopher Melzo; Eric Melzo; twenty great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Two grandchildren, Kathryn L. (Schramke) Gilbert and Theodore F. Melzo III. and two brothers, three sisters, Rolland and Wayne Bosserdet, Mary Goulding, Lucille Twarozynski and Betty Bosserdet, have predeceased her. The funeral liturgy will be held on Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1035 N. River Road, Saginaw. Rev. David Parsch will officiate with burial in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the W. L. Case and Co. Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Road, from 2:00-5:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. Monday where a parish vigil service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friends may then call at the Church from 9:00 a.m. Tuesday until the time of the funeral service.
