McGuire, Gerald “Jerry”, Saginaw, Michigan


Passed away Friday, October 07, 2011 at the age of 94. He was born on June 14, 1917, son of Tom and Alice McGuire; he graduated from Arthur Hill Trade School. He was predeceased by his wife, Ruth, after 66 years of loving marriage. Gerald served in the U.S. Army as a corporal during World War II. He was a life-long farmer, operating a farm on North Michigan Ave. in Kochville Township for over sixty years, producing tomatoes, soybeans, corn, greens, strawberries, and melons, among others, and selling them at his farm, Saginaw farm markets, and local businesses. Gerald was an avid hunter and woodworker, and enjoyed relaxing with his family at his lake cabin in Harrison. He and his wife Ruth were active, faithful members of Kochville United Methodist Church for over fifty years. His twin daughters, Jean and Joan, have loving memories of a devoted and kind father who provided a loving and safe home for them. Gerald was loved by friends and family for his quick wit, genuine smile, and good nature. His unique mix of old-fashioned integrity, work ethic and a common sense approach to life, coupled with a nonjudgmental, kindhearted demeanor, made people feel at ease in his company and earned him the respect of many friends. Surviving him are his two daughters, Jean Nellis and Joan (Jim) Clement, brother Neil (Phyllis) McGuire, three grandchildren, Cathy (Ken) Crawford, David (Deinna) Clement, and John Nellis; four great grandchildren, Hannah and Jack Clement, and Meagan and Alyssa Crawford; and many loving nieces and nephews. Gerald was preceded in death by his wife Ruth, brother Louis, and sister-in-law Irma. A funeral service will take place on Monday, October 10, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Kochville United Methodist Church, 6030 Bay Road. Rev. Susan Bennett Stiles will officiate with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. His family will receive friends at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Road, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Sunday, and then at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
