Massa, Dr. Martin Patrick, Sanford, MI, Formerly of Saginaw, Michigan


Passed away Monday August 29, 2011.  Age 75 years.  Martin Patrick Massa was born October 21, 1935 in Bridgeport, Connecticut to Pasquale and Josephine (Esposito) Massa.  He graduated from Stratford High School, and then attended National College of Chiropractic in Chicago, graduating in 1957.  He practiced with Dr. John W. Dunn until Dr. Dunn retired.  Dr. Todd Massa joined the practice in 1988 and Martin retired in 1995.  Dr. Todd Massa continued their practice.  Martin was much loved and respected by his patients.  He was known for always having a story or joke and giving patients as much time as they needed.  He truly had healing hands and a generous heart.  He was very active in civic groups such as the Shields Lions Club, Sons of Italy, and the Chiropractic Association.  He married Nancy Kemerer in 1967 and they shared 44 years of marriage.  She survives him.  He was also blessed with five sons and one daughter; Dr. Todd A. (Natalie) Massa and their children, Lauren and her sons Hunter and Haydan, Megan (Joe) Frost, and Aaron; Dr. Rodger W. (Rhonda) Massa and their children, Taylor, Logan, and Kameron; Martin P. (Cheryl) Massa and their children, Shelby, Hannah and Stuart; Paul Massa, Emily Baker; Patrick (Kara) Massa and their children, Gregory, Vincent and Benjamin of Parker, CO; daughter Susan Bridges and her son Cole of Jacksonville, FL; a sister-in-law Christina (James) Hunt of Clare; aunts Joan Kemerer of Saginaw, JoJo Esposito of Connecticut, and Alphia Esposito of Florida; dear friend John Sears; childhood buddies, John Aurelia, Francis McLaughlin, Bobby Olderman of Connecticut, and Raymond Koch of California; the “Happy Hour Gang”, Kenneth & Carol Baybeck, John & Marilyn Nyeste, Thomas & Helen Kostrzewa, Norman & Joyce Yockey, Dallas Winslow, and Kathy Compton; and many other loving family members and friends.  Martin was predeceased by his parents, his in-laws Charles and Christina Kemerer, and three brothers-in-law, Walter and Gerald Kemerer and Kenneth Dygert.  The family wishes to thank Mid-Michigan Hospice and Stone Crest Assisted Living for their compassionate care.  Funeral service will take place on Wednesday, August 31 at 5:00 p.m. at the Reitz Herzberg Funeral Home, 1550 S. Midland Road (South M-47). Rev. Catherine Chang from Bertha Strosacker Memorial Presyterian Church in Midland will officiate.
