Martin Sr., William McLean (Bill), Saginaw, Michigan

Passed away peacefully on Monday evening, February 21, 2011, at the Aleda E. Lutz V.A. Medical Center. Age 88 years. Bill was born on December 8, 1922, in Saginaw, to the late James and Mary (Law) Martin. He married the love of his life, Emma S. Niederquell, on October 21, 1950, in Saginaw. She survives him. Bill served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and the Korean War. Prior to his retirement in 2001, Bill was employed for 60 years in the tool & die trade for Miles Machinery, B & K Tool & Die, Buick Motor, and for 35 of those years, he was employed with GM and Delphi in the model shop at Plant 3. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church on Brockway, American Business Women’s Assoc., the Handyman Club, the Michigan Clan Donald Society, and the American Legion. Bill and Emma enjoyed traveling and spending time with their family on Marco Island in Florida. From their union they were blessed with two sons and their loving families, William M. (Hedy) Martin Jr., Bay City; Douglas R. (Kathleen) Martin, Frankenmuth; eight grandchildren, Melanie (Erick) Hathaway, William M. (Shannon) Martin III, Danielle (Anthony) Premo, Andrew Martin (Alicia MacMillan), Melissa Martin (fiancée Tyler Fabricant), Senior Airman, Breck (Lucy) Martin, Tyler and McKenzie Martin; seven great-grandchildren, Aubrey and Aleigh Premo, Madison, William IV, Preston and Meredith Martin, and Brooklyn Hathaway; three sisters-in-law, Dorothy (Douglas, who was as special as a brother) Cook, Lorraine Yates and Carol Niederquell, Fred Niederquell, who was also as special as a brother to Bill, all of Saginaw; a special cousin and nephew in Scotland, Elizabeth (William) Carter, and Andrew (Patricia) Fiddes; also many other special nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his sisters and brother and their spouses, Agnes (Charles) Tatroe, Mary (William) Little, Nell (Herbert) Martineau, James (Carol) Martin, and Elizabeth “Isla” (Eugene) Clement; and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, David (Jean) Niederquell. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks for the loving care given to Bill from the Doctors and Staff at the Aleda E. Lutz V.A. Medical Center. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 26, 2011, at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, 4705 Brockway Road. The Rev. Daniel P. Garbow will officiate with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, where military honor guard will be conducted under the auspices of American Legion Post #439. Friends may visit with the family at the Wakeman Funeral Home, Inc., 1218 N. Michigan Ave. on Friday, February 25, 2011, from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., then at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be given to St. John’s Ev.
