Daryl Matthew Kocks, loving husband of Sandy (Cilc) Kocks, and father of Jeremy Kocks, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, June 5, 2011 at home with his loving family by his side. During his illness, Sandy’s constant care and positive spirit kept him comfortable. He was born on March 31, 1958, to Gerald and Judith (Warner) Kocks in Saginaw. He was married on July 30, 1994 to his “sweetie” and developed a special relationship with Sandy’s parents, Jim and Marilee Cilc of Caseville. Daryl graduated from Dwight D. Eisenhower High School in 1976 where he played on the varsity hockey team. He attained a bachelor’s degree in architectural engineering from Lawrence Institute of Technology. Daryl worked for various engineering companies and was responsible for the design of many public buildings and churches in the tri-cities and surrounding area. Daryl and Sandy cherished their time together camping, bowling, and making memories with family and friends. Daryl enjoyed the outdoors, whether on the Rifle River laughing with friends or quietly bow hunting in the woods. He took special pride in his koi pond and worked to make his yard a beautiful outdoor setting, where he hosted several memorable celebrations. Daryl was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Eagles Club. Daryl leaves to cherish his memory, two sisters, Michelle Frank of Midland and Melinda (Ron) Myotte of Illinois; and two brothers, Dan (Sue) Kocks of Grand Blanc and Tim (Lisa) Kocks of Alabama. Daryl will be remembered dearly by Sandy’s sisters, Carlene (Doug) Cilc of Hickory Corners, Bobbie (Ken) Kasper of Freeland, and Lee (Jim) Bell of Merrill, who considered him a brother. In addition, he leaves many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Brent Frank and his grandparents, Horace and Nina Warner, Julia Charlton and Carl Kocks.
