Harris, Elmer W. (Spike), Saginaw, Michigan

Passed away at his home on Sunday, March 27, 2011. Age 101 years. Elmer was born on November 11, 1909, in Carrollton, MI to the late Earl and Mary (Pussehl) Harris. He married Ruth Holl on May 11, 1935, in Saginaw. They celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary. She predeceased him on August 22, 2010. Prior to his retirement, Elmer co-owned Harris Locker and Hardware with his brothers from 1946-1973. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and its Senior Saints. He enjoyed playing cards and was a talented woodworker. Surviving are his children and their spouses, Barbara (Gary) Harvey, Saginaw; Susan (Thomas) Bailey, Saginaw; Thomas (Susan) Harris, Salem, N.H.; six grandchildren, Steven (Mary) Harvey, Saginaw; Karen (Duane) Boswell, Freeland; Douglas (Susan) Harvey, Freeland; Linda (Robert) Bartosiewicz, Freeland; Jeff (Shari) Bailey, Freeland; Elizabeth Harris, Palo Alto, CA; 14 great-grandchildren, Jessica, Aaron and Erik Harvey; Nathan, Mollie and Matthew Boswell; Gabe, Jonathan and Noah Bartosiewicz; Nicholas and Lauren Bailey; Ashley, Allison and Madison Harvey; one brother Gilbert Harris; also many nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, James (Dianne) Harris, Saginaw. He was predeceased by his brothers and sister, Earl Harris, Amber Coe, Russell Harris, Chester Harris and Clifford Harris. Funeral service will take place on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 808 Weiss St. The Rev. Michael R. Korte will officiate with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit with the family at the Wakeman Funeral Home, Inc., 1218 N. Michigan Ave., on Monday, April 4, 2011, from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., then at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
