Freeland, Gerald Duane, Midland, MI, Formerly of Saginaw, MI

Beloved son, brother and uncle passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 25, 2011, in Midland. Age 66 years. Gerald was born May 28, 1944, in Saginaw, the son of Ruth Ellen (Staver) and the late Harmon J. Freeland. He graduated from Saginaw High School with the Class of 1962. He received his Bachelor of Science from Saginaw Valley State University in 1966 and his Master of Arts in Mathematics from Central Michigan University in 1971. He taught at Saginaw Business Institute, was employed in the computer department of the Saginaw Intermediate School District, and for the past twenty years, was an instructor at Mid-Michigan Community College until retiring in 2010. He enjoyed music, and played the guitar and banjo. He also studied foreign languages, including German, Russian and Japanese. He was a practitioner of Tai Chi. Surviving are his mother, Ruth Freeland, Saginaw; one brother, James H. Freeland, Harrisville; one sister, Janet E. Freeland, Saginaw; two nephews, John P. Freeland, Evart; James M. Freeland, Bridgeport; three grand-nephews, Julius, Justin and Tyler; one aunt, Susan Hazard, Auburn Hills; several cousins and their families. Funeral service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 29, 2011, at the W.L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Road, Saginaw, where his family will receive friends from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. on Friday, and then on Saturday from 12:00 noon until the time of service. His cousin, Rev. David Freeland, will officiate. Private burial will take place in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
