Darvill, Bernice O., Saginaw, Michigan

Passed away Tuesday, August 2, 2011, at Shattuck Manor. Age 93 years. The daughter of the late Chester and Nina (Steere) Olson was born January 2, 1918 in Ottawa, Illinois. She was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Illinois where in her senior year, she served as president of the Independent Women on Campus. She married Bob Darvill, October 27, 1940. He passed away in 1988. Mr. and Mrs. Darvill made their home in the St. Joseph and Benton Harbor areas until she moved to Saginaw five years ago. Bernice was very active member of the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary and had served as President. She was director of a Duplicate Bridge Club and a Silver Life Master. She had been an active member of St. Joseph Congregational Church, its choir and Women’s Fellowship. She was currently a member of First Congregational Church, Saginaw. Bernice enjoyed her time at Shattuck Manor, especially the birds. Surviving are two children, Bob Darvill, Kalamazoo, MI. and his special friend, Karin Kwiet, Greenville, MI; Judy and Mort Weldy, Saginaw, MI; three grandchildren, Karen Ancel, Ken Weldy and Jim Weldy; six great grandchildren, Steven and Elizabeth Ancel; Jessica and Kathryn Weldy; Aaron and Rachel Weldy; a sister, Jean Lehnbeuter, Florida; several nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her sister, Margaret Collins and a brother, Chester Olson. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 12, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at First Congregational Church, 403 S. Jefferson Ave., Saginaw. Rev. Kenneth Anderson will officiate. Friends may call at the Church from 10:00 a.m. Friday until the time of the memorial service.
