Doris Marie Craig, of Port Richey, Florida passed away in Saginaw, Michigan early Sunday morning, July 24, 2011. She was 88 years old. The oldest daughter of Ethel Mae and Philip Felix Oriole, Doris was born in Erie, PA, April 25, 1923, and grew up in Detroit, MI where she attended St. Cecilia grade and high school. She married Robert James Craig in Detroit in 1946, and together raised two boys and three girls. After moving to Saginaw in 1963, Doris worked at Werkema Photo Studio, and became active in local politics, championing issues of social justice, including a fair housing ordinance and the election of Sr. Ardeth Platte, O.P. to the City Council. The daughter of an Italian immigrant, Doris possessed a passion for family and friends, a well-composed photograph, a spirited game of Gin Rummy, and the Word of God. After coming to know the Lord in 1979, Doris discovered she wanted to learn, study and teach His word. When the family moved to Florida in 1982, she devoted her life to knowing and understanding the Bible. Doris attended Bible College, became an active member of the Christian Women’s Club often traveling the state of Florida sharing her love of God’s word with nursing home residents and women’s groups. Believing God had given them a special gift, she and her husband Bob developed and taught a course on the power and blessings of a marital relationship grounded in the Lord. He passed away May 22 of this year, just three weeks shy of their 65th anniversary. Doris is survived by her five children: Diane M. Craig & Julie R. Cramton (Ralph) of FL; Robert P. Craig (Toni) of Saginaw & Marie E. Mossner (Brad) of Grand Rapids; and Philip J. Craig (Sherry) of UT; 9 nieces and nephews, 16 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and a great-niece and nephew; childhood friends June McDonnell of Arvada, CO, Virginia Bernadotte of Michigan, and many dear friends in Michigan and Florida. Her sister, Phyllis Lucille Bonarrigo, predeceased her in 1994. Funeral Service will take place on Thursday, July 28, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road (between Shattuck and McCarty). She will be interred with her husband at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. Friends may call at the funeral home where the family will be present on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
