Ciaramitaro, Leo J., Saginaw, Michigan

Passed away Thursday, November 3, 2011 at Covenant Cooper at age 94. Leo was born September 13, 1917 in Saginaw. He was married to Helen Lewandowski on September 30, 1939 and they recently celebrated 72 years of marriage. Helen and Leo owned and operated Spotless Drycleaners for 59 years. He was a lifelong member of St. Andrew Church. He was a member and Past President of Sons of Italy - Christopher Columbus Sacra Famiglia Lodge 2456, Saginaw Exchange Club, President of MILD in 1977, K of C Council 4232 and it’s 4th Degree for 30 years. Leo was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Navy aboard the carrier USS Tarawa. He served on the board of the Amalgamated Credit Union. He was an avid tennis player and enjoyed golf and bowling. Surviving is his wife Helen, 3 daughters and a son: Nicolette (Gary) Blakeslee of Hemlock, Rosemary (Dennis) Cherry of St. Charles, Roland (Shirley) Ciaramitaro of North Olmsted, OH; Nancy (Robert) Kaufman of Saginaw. A daughter in law Rita Ciaramitaro of Pennsylvania, 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Also a sister Prudence Hillert of Oxford, MI and a brother Basil Ciaramitaro of Prudenville. He was predeceased by a son William Ciaramitaro and two sisters, Grace Anderson and Elizabeth Kozlowski. He leaves many special friends. The family extends a Thank You to the doctors and nurses of Covenant Cooper CCU. Funeral mass will take place on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church. Fr. Ronald Wagner will officiate with entombment in Mt. Olivet Mausoleum. Visitation will take place on Monday, November 7 from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at the McIntyre Funeral Chapel, 500 N. Michigan Ave., and on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until service at the church. The K of C Council 4232 will pray the rosary at 3:00 p.m. Monday. Memorials can be considered to the Sons of Italy, the American Heart Association, St. Andrew Church or charity of donor’s choice.
