Chappins, Gobita “Hope”, Saginaw, Michigan


Passed away on Monday, October 10, 2011 surrounded by her family. She was 81 years old. Gobita Vela was born on February 6, 1930 in Linwood, Michigan to the late Manuel and Angela (Espinoza) Vela. She was married to Lazaro S. “Mule” Chappins on October 18, 1951 in Saginaw. He preceded her in death on May 19, 1990. Gobita was a member of SS. Simon and Jude Catholic Church. She is survived by five daughters and two sons: Linda (Martin) Flores, Rose (Ygnacio Ray) Reyes, Jr. , Julia (Lazero) Perez, Joanne (Alfonso) Sada, Eva (Jose) Mireles, Lazaro S. Chappins, Jr., Joseph (Jennifer) Chappins; nine grandchildren: Jesse (Kelsie) Flores, Ygnacio (Melissa) Reyes III, Lilianna L. Reyes, Hope San Miguel and her fiancé Ezekiel Escamilla, Cindy San Miguel, Taylor Mireles, Nicholas Mireles, Jessica Chappins, Joseph Lazaro Chappins, Jr.; seven great grandchildren: Asia, Cassidy and Ygnacio R. Reyes IV, Ezekiel and Stefan Escamilla; and one sister, Mary Martinez. She was preceded in death by a son, Jimmie Chappins; one sister and six brothers: Rachael Heredia, Manuel, Joe, Charles, Edward, Robert and Gillermo Vela. Gobita’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Heartland Hospice for all the care and support they provided. A funeral liturgy for Gobita will be held on Monday, October 17, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at SS. Simon and Jude Catholic Church, 2395 Outer Drive, Saginaw. Rev. Fr. John Mancini, OSFS will officiate. Rite of Committal will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends are welcome to visit with the family on Sunday, October 16, 2011 from 2:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Road (off State). A Vigil Service will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday evening. Gobita will lie in state at the church on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
