Bell, Catherine A., Hemlock, Michigan

Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt, passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2011, at Hoyt Nursing and Rehab Center, at the age of 100 years. Catherine A. Wenzel was born May 25, 1911 in Thomas Township, the daughter of the late Adolph “Otto” and Catherine (Callahan) Wenzel. She married Ralph William Bell on June 26, 1929; he predeceased her November 7, 1985. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Hemlock, the League of Catholic Women, the Legion of Mary, and Christian Service Appeal. She was also a member of the Grange and 4-H. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Grandma will always be remembered for her baking and her famous chocolate chip cookies and cookie dough. Surviving are one son, James O. Bell, and his friend, Carol Plaga, Saginaw; granddaughter, Kathleen Bell Bence and her husband David; grandson Dr. Patrick Bell, his wife Carol Lyons Bell and their son Morgan; granddaughter Kristine Bell Butterworth, husband Steven, and their sons Erik, Kyle, Dylan and Logan; two brothers, Chester Wenzel and Bernard Wenzel; a sister-in-law, Marge Bell Wolgast; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and their families. She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Marilyn E. Bell, grandson Fr. Michael J. Bell, great-grandson, Korbin “Kory” Butterworth, sister and brother-in-law, Junella and Alfred Bell; sisters-in-law Frances (George) Sloboda, Gertrude Wenzel and Margaret Wenzel. Funeral Liturgy will take place on Friday, June 10, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Hemlock. Rev. Fr. Steve Gavit will officiate with burial in St. Mary Cemetery, Hemlock. Her family will receive friends at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Road, from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. Thursday, where a prayer service will take place at 7:00 p.m. Thursday. Friends and family may then call at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Memorial donations may be made to the Rev. Fr. Michael J. Bell Memorial Scholarship Fund at Nouvel Catholic Central.
