Behnke, Elroy C. “Roy”, Saginaw Township, Michigan

Passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Howell, age 82 years. Elroy Carl Gerhart Behnke was born April 29, 1929 in Wausau, Wisconsin the son of the late Carl and Clara (Pattinger) Behnke. Roy graduated from the University of Wisconsin. He also served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a 2nd Lieutenant. Roy was married to the former Barb Lang, she predeceased him December 19, 2009. Roy was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Saginaw. Roy was General Foreman/Supervisor for Chevrolet Grey Iron for 36 years, retiring in 1986. He later became a commercial real estate agent for DeGroat Realty in 1988, retiring in 1998. Roy was a Stephen’s Ministry Minister and enjoyed his weekly Bible study meetings. He was a member of the Pulaski Club, American Legion and past member of American Foundry Men’s Society. Roy was also and avid Muskie fisherman and hunter. Surviving are two sons; Kevin and his fiancé Michelle Rosenberg, Brian and his wife; Maria, 3 grandsons; Blake, Bridg and Jacob Behnke, 3 sisters; Wilma Bohl, Raleigh, NC., Valeria McDonald, Wausau, WI., Elaine (Ron) Strasser, Rib Mountain, WI., 1 sister in-law; Ethel Bohl, Wausau, WI. and many nieces and nephews. Roy was also predeceased by his parents, 2 sisters; Eleanore Behnke, Norrine Peters and 1 brother; Armin Behnke. Services will be held on Friday June 3, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly. Pastor Doug Kennedy will officiate.
