Barnes, Bernice M., Saginaw, Michigan

Loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away Sunday, September 25, 2011 at her home. Age 91 years. The daughter of the late John and Viola (Tomkowiak) Schultz, Bernice was born on July 4, 1920 in Saginaw, Michigan. She was married to William C. Barnes on July 14, 1945. He predeceased her on September 29, 1960. Bernice was a receptionist for George’s Dry Cleaners for 43 years. She was a member of St. Josaphat Catholic Church and its Rosary Altar Society. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving are two sons and one daughter, William J. and Catherine Barnes, Wayne, Michigan; Michael J. and Diane Barnes, Saginaw; Patricia and Gregg Pappas, Bay City; seven grandchildren, Jennifer (Chris) Vanderveen, Joshua and Jacob Barnes, David (Alejandra) Barnes, Kelly (Nicholas) Hamilton, Kimberly (Mark) Armstrong, Stephen (Andrea) Pappas; eleven great-grandchildren, Gage, Skylar, Hudson and Easton Armstrong and Julia, Andrew and Madison Pappas, Breeghan, Michaela, Spencer Mae Hamilton, Elliot Vanderveen and an angel on the way ; one brother and one sister, John (Irene) Schultz, and Catherine Maciejewski, her sister-in-law, Marie Schultz and several nieces and nephews. Bernice was preceded in death by two sisters and seven brothers. Funeral Liturgy will take place on Friday, September 30, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Josaphat Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Ronald Dombrowski will officiate with interment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road, (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Friday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass. A Vigil Service will take place at 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Josaphat Catholic Church.
