Beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt passed away Saturday, May 22, 2010 at Covenant HealthCare Cooper following a brief illness. Age 66 years. The daughter of Ruth (Hammond) Hunt and the late Walter Gushen, Carolyn was born December 7, 1943 in Saginaw, Michigan. She had lived in Standish, Michigan from 1972-1989. She was previously married to Douglas Ellis (predeceased) and later to James Wielinski. Carolyn was employed at Meijer’s on Gratiot for 20 years. She was a member of A.A. and Al-Anon as well as Ames United Methodist Church and its Youth Program. Carolyn enjoyed ceramics, painting and spending time with her grandchildren. Carolyn was a Christian, loving, caring, gentle and giving person. She would go without to give to you, often anonymously. She lived to give her prayers, love and belongings to others. Surviving are three children and their spouses, Jeffrey and Caroline Ellis, New Mexico; Scott and Heather Ellis, Florida; Cheryl (Wielinski) and Steve Yealey, Standish; nine grandchildren, Aryan (serving in the U.S.A.F. in Korea), Lucas, Molli, T.J., Colton, Abbi Jo Ellis, Tiffany, Zackary and Matthew Yealey; two sisters, Hazel (Gushen) Moore, Saginaw; Ele (Gushen) and Brad Hanson, Bay City; several nieces and nephews, Judy and Brad Minar and their daughter Bethany, Michael Moore and Bill Harnsberger, James and Tammy Moore and their daughter Nicole, Lori (Hanson) and Tom Kania, Tim Hanson and his daughter, Jaquelynn; cousins, Nancy (Reid) and Jerome Swantek and their daughter Jennifer and Scott Brady and their son, Spencer; and Matthew Reid. Carolyn was preceded in death by a cousin, Donald Reid. Carolyn’s family extends their appreciation to the staff of Covenant HealthCare Cooper for the loving care they provided. Funeral service will take place at 6:00 p.m. Friday, May 28, 2010 at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road (between Shattuck and McCarty). Rev. Mark Karls will officiate. Honoring Carolyn’s wishes, cremation will follow. Friends may call at the funeral home where the family will be present on Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the wishes of the family. www.snowfuneralhome.net
