Passed away on Saturday, July 17, 2010, at Caretel Inns of TriCities. She was 88 years old. Virginia V. Panico was born August 14, 1921, in Saginaw to the late Gaetano and Charlotte (Scala) Panico. She was married to George E. Whitney on August 29, 1953, in Saginaw. He preceded her in death on April 27, 1981. Virginia was a member of St. Josaphat Catholic Church, and had been a loving and devoted foster mother for many over the years. Virginia had also worked for the Home Dairy. In her later years, Virginia, enjoyed traveling the world by taking cruising. She is survived by her children, Linda (Robert) Sovine of Saginaw, Julie (Vince) Zdrojkowski of Bay City, Mark (Cindy) Whitney of Jackson and Gerald Whitney of St. Charles; seven grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; brother, Dominic Panico; sisters, Susan DiSarno and Mary (Richard) Tyra; and her best friends: Margaret Michalski and Nancy Naples. Two brothers, Andrew and Carlo Panico, preceded her in death. A funeral liturgy for Virginia will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at St. Josaphat Catholic Church, 469 Shattuck Road. Rev. Fr. Ronald J. Dombrowski will officiate with burial to follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Road (off State) on Tuesday July 20, 2010 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Vigil service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Virginia will lie in state at the church on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the American Cancer Society.
