Wappenhensch, Otto A., Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend passed away early Monday, August 16, 2010, at Covenant - Cooper. Age 96 years. He was born February 1, 1914, in Berlin, Germany, the son of the late Richard and Martha (Kusch) Wappenhensch, moving to the United States in 1929. He received his Bachelor of Science in Engineering from GMI Tech (now Kettering University). He was employed as an engineer for 39 years with Dow Chemical and Dow Corning, retiring in 1979. He married Madeline Pickelman on September 7, 1940; she predeceased him January 6, 1997. They enjoyed spending time at their cottage on Long Lake. They traveled extensively, including all 50 states, and also returned to visit Germany. Mr. Wappenhensch was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, where he organized The Cut-Ups stamp group, selling stamps to raise money for various church projects. He was a former member and Board Director of the Germania Town and Country Club. He enjoyed bowling, stamp collecting, and card playing. Above all, he was devoted to his family. Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Kenneth Kable. Another daughter, Ruth Handeguand, predeceased him in 2007. He also leaves six grandchildren, Mark, Timothy, and Laura Kable, Jeff and Eric (Trisha) Handeguand, and Sarah Hoffman; three great-grandchildren, Andrew, Eric Jr., and Rylee; and a special friend, Norine Hales. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 19, 2010, at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Road. His family will receive friends at the chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Road, from 5:00 - 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, and then on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Rev. C.
