Walraven, Lawrence V., Bay City, Michigan

Mr. Walraven passed away November 28, 2010 at Bay Regional Medical Center at the age of 83. Lawrence was born to the late Leo William and Mary Anne (Solinski) Walraven on June 9, 1927 in Hampton Township. Lawrence was a retired millwright at the Cement Plant and Grey Iron Foundry. He was and always will be a farmer. Lawrence was a veteran of the Korean War. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards, visits to the casinos and watching baseball games. He was a member of the AMVETS, Eagles and he was generous to many charities. Lawrence was born, raised and lived his entire life in Hampton Township. He was united in marriage to the former Betty Jean Florence McCready in 1954 at St. Andrews Catholic Church. They enjoyed 35 years of marriage before she passed away in 1990. Together they raised three sons: Lawrence V. (Mary) Walraven Jr. of Saginaw, Joseph M. Walraven, deceased and Gregory L. (friend Tammy) of Bay City. Lawrence then went on to marry Loraine Martin January 15, 2005 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bay City:
she survives him. Lawrence is also survived by his grandchildren; Joel and Justin Walraven, Kristen and Joachim Globell, Lawrence III, Melinda J., William L., Sarah and Garrett Walraven. Also a step-grandchild, James (Linda) Spradlin and their children; Sam, Ben and Sophia. Lawrence also is awaiting the birth of two great-grandchildren in early 2011. He is also survived by his siblings; Evelyn Migut, Josephine and Robert Wisnieioski, Irene Tobias, Paul and Darlene Walraven. Lawrence deceased siblings and in-laws; Angeline and Jerry Collier, James Walraven, Lou and Bernadine Walraven, Francis Walraven, Elaine and Earl Shillair, Richard Walraven, Michael Migut and Louis Tobias. Lawrence also leaves many nieces and nephews. Deceased nephews, Jerry (Jay) Collier and Richard (Dickie) Walraven, also a deceased step-grandson, Michael A. Spradlin. Lawrence will be greatly missed for his smile and his great sense of humor. Funeral Liturgy will take place Thursday, December 2, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St Joseph Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Dale A. Orlik will officiate with committal service to follow in St. Patrick Cemetery. Friends may call at the Stapish Cederberg Funeral Home-East on Wednesday, from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m., where a Vigil for the Deceased will take place at 7:00 p.m. Lawrence will lie in state at the church Thursday morning at 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
