Loving mother and grandmother passed away Sunday, June 20, 2010, at Covenant - Cooper, after a brief illness. Age 79 years. Kathryn Anne Shay was born October 2, 1930 in Tupper Lake, New York, the daughter of the late William C. and Mary E. (Winter) Shay. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Hamline University, St. Paul, Minnesota, and later her Master of Nursing Education from the University of Michigan. She had been employed as a Registered Nurse and later Associate Director of Nursing at St. Luke’s Hospital. She later was employed by the Visiting Nurse Association of Saginaw and served as its Director of Hospice. She was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was a life-member of the Germania Town and Country Club and was an avid bowler. She played Bridge in several clubs. She was a volunteer on the Elections Board. She was an avid gardener and reader. In her later years, she travelled extensively with her college roommates. She married Donald W. Trier on August 28, 1954; he predeceased her February 15, 2000. Surviving are one son and two daughters, William Donald and Deanna Trier, Sarasota, Florida; Karen Beuerle, Grand Ledge; Mary and Brad McAllister, Mt. Pleasant; eight grandchildren, Elizabeth, Steven and Matthew Beuerle, Taylor Trier, Jenna Geyer, Kathryn, Sarah and Jacob McAllister; a sister-in-law, Ruth Trier; and many dear and close friends. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 1, 2010, at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Road, where her family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. Thursday until the time of service. Rev. William Brassow will officiate.
