Tilley, Major Lois Loraine (U.S.A.F. retired), Hale, MI, Formerly of Saginaw, MI

Passed away Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at U of M Hospital in Ann Arbor at the age of 73 years. Lois was born June 23, 1936, in Hale, MI to the late Alfred and Mary (Pickett) Tilley. She attended Saginaw Public Schools and graduated from Arthur Hill High School in 1954. She spent three years in the U.S. Air Force 543rd Women’s Air Force Band. She then spent 17 years serving in various administrative/management positions in the U.S. Air Force including service in the Vietnam War. Lois retired from military duty in 1980. She was a member of the Military Order of the World Wars in perpetuity; life member of the Disabled American Veterans; The Vietnam Veterans Association; The American Legion; The V.F.W.; and the Air Force Musicians Association. In 1963 she graduated from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio with a Bachelor of Music Education Degree. She played in the Saginaw Eddie Band; University of Texas New Horizons Band; Mississippi Gulf Coast Community Band; and the Tawas Community Band. Lois also graduated from the American Academy of Art in Chicago, Illinois in 1984. She was a former member of the Austin Texas Palette Club and Tawas Bay Artists. She privately taught drawing and painting classes in Austin, Texas and in East Tawas, Michigan. Lois lived in Austin, Texas until her relocation to Hale in 2004. She is survived by her siblings, Gary (Janet Thoms) Tilley and Kay Tilley of Hale, MI; a niece Megan (Justin) Manni; and several cousins. She was predeceased by her siblings, Diane Dillon and Alfred Tilley Jr. Private family services and interment will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Saginaw, MI with full veteran honors.
