Beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away Monday, September 20, 2010, after a courageous and lengthy battle with cancer. Age 72 years. Son of the late Francis and Vivian (Vaughan) Thiel, Dave was born April 17, 1938 in Saginaw, Michigan. He married Sylvia Fey on August 9, 1958. She survives him. After enlisting in the United States Marine Corp, Dave returned to Saginaw where he became a master electrician with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local #557. In 1976 he founded Thiel Electric Corporation, which is still run by his sons. Dave loved fishing, hunting, golfing and spending time with his family. Dave and his wife Sylvia celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in 2008. Dave was a founding member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church. Left to cherish precious memories are his devoted, loving wife, Sylvia and their four children, Cindy (Todd) Fink, David J. (Kimberly) Thiel, Dennis (Christina) Thiel and Debra (John) Swartz, all of Saginaw Township; seven grandchildren, Brandon and Meghan Fink, Jacob and Savanah Swartz, Parker, Charlie and Gabrielle Thiel. He is also survived by his sister, Betty (Chuck) Beck and brother, Francis (Jane) Thiel, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Dave was preceded in death by his brothers, Donald and Robert Thiel. Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 24, 2010 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. James Carlson will officiate. Entombment will take place in St. Andrew Mausoleum with Military Services conducted by the U.S. Marine Corp. Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road (between Shattuck and McCarty) where the family will be present on Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and at St. John Vianney Catholic Church on Friday from 10:00 until time of Mass. A Vigil Service, led by Rev. Fr. David Parsch, will take place at 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. John Vianney Catholic Church or American Cancer Society. Dave lived his life to the fullest. His humor, loving ways and generous heart are gifts to be treasured forever by his family and friends.
