Went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at the age of 90 years. Mabel Emilie Wardin was born September 15, 1919, in Hemlock, the daughter of the late Carl W. and Ella (Bohn) Wardin. She graduated from Central Michigan Normal with a degree in Education and taught elementary school in Saginaw and Livonia, retiring after 35 years of service. She was an active member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Hemlock, its Ladies Aid Society, the Altar Guild, the Senior Citizens Group, volunteering at Bethesda Thrift Shop, and making crafts and quilting. She enjoyed dinners with the Retired Teachers group. She was a member and Past-President of the Hemlock-Merrill VFW Post #7301 Auxiliary. She married Donald Andrew Stevens on August 18, 1951; he predeceased her April 2, 1995. She was also predeceased by her twin sister, Mildred Ulrich, three brothers, Martin (Lorraine), Norbert (Eileen) and Roger Wardin, and by a niece, Pamela Ulrich. Surviving are her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Ruth Wardin, Raymond Ulrich, George Stevens, Myrtle Hanzek and Laurel Stevens; many loving nieces, nephews and their families. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 16, 2010, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 2461 N. Raucholz Road. Rev. Martin J. Hagenow will officiate with burial in Richland Lutheran Cemetery. Her family will receive friends at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Road, from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday and then at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
