Starke, Pastor Larry E., Saginaw, Michigan

Barbara P. Frost

Pastor Larry Enno Starke of Saginaw, Michigan, graduated this life and went to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on Thursday morning, May 06, 2010 after a 4 year battle with cancer. He passed away at home, surrounded by his family. Larry was a tool and die maker at the Malleable Iron Foundry for 20 years. He changed professions selling insurance for Equitable Life Insurance Company while simultaneously studying for ministry. Larry was an entrepreneur at heart, and started several businesses throughout the course of his life, which included: Professional Analysts Financial Associates (Partnering with Lee Fickes) and Valley Resale (Used automobiles). Upon graduation of his ministry studies, Larry and Sherry founded New Life Christian Fellowship Church in April, 1985. Larry served as Senior Pastor there for 23 years until his retirement in 2008. While he served in ministry with the church, Larry used his business experience to not only bless others, but as a way to reach the lost and hurting. He was a wonderful husband, father, son, counselor and friend. He gave his heart and life to Jesus Christ in 1968, and spent the rest of his life with a heartfelt devotion to telling others of the good news of salvation through a personal relationship with his Lord. Few things stirred Pastor Larry’s heart more than his passions, (Jesus, his family, lost souls and Corvettes). He enjoyed life to the fullest and near the end spoke often of how much fun he’s had and how he’s just tried to stay true to his heart, but mostly how he so looked forward to meeting his Master. He was born to the late Enno and Emmeline Starke of Marion Springs, Michigan on March 23, 1944. He graduated from Merrill high school in 1962. He married his soul mate Sheryl K. Puffpaff in September 26, 1964. To that wonderful union God added 5 wonderful children and 8 beloved grandchildren: Lisa & Gary Jaenicke of Hemlock, Dawn Starke of Kalamazoo, David & Lisa (Grant, Cole, Luke & Claire) Starke of Saginaw, Matthew & Kristin (Jacob & Kate) Starke of Saginaw, and Sarah & John (Jonathan & Garrett) Reimer, of Hemlock. He was predeceased by his father Enno Starke and his mother-in-law Helen Puffpaff. Surviving besides his wife, children, and grandchildren are his mother Emmeline, and his 7 siblings: Gerald (Margaret) Starke, Marlene (Dan) Holton, Rod (Terry) Starke, Victor (Marjorie) Starke, all of Marion Springs; Lorraine (Dale) Miller, of Chesaning, Martin (Diane) of St. Charles, Janice (Louis) Vedrode, of Merrill. He is also survived by his father-in-law, Marvin Puffpaff, sister’s-in-law Connie Decher, of Hemlock, Susan (John) Harris, of Augusta, GA, and brother-in-law, Mark Puffpaff, Hammond, LA. Larry also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and many friends. The funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at Holy Spirit Church, 1035 N. River Road. Pastor Donald Dinninger will officiate with burial in Owen Cemetery. His family will receive friends at the W. L.
