Passed away on Friday, November 5, 2010 at Saginaw Senior Care and Rehab Center. He was 83 years old. Steve Spess was born on January 23, 1927 in St. Johns, Michigan to the late John and Mary (Charnota) Spess. He was married to Esther Arlene Annis on June 5, 1948. She predeceased him on March 7, 1997. Steve later married Dorothy J. Jones on May 10, 2003. She survives him. Steve proudly served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII. He received his bachelor degree in Industrial Engineering from General Motors Institute in 1951. Steve had been employed by General Motors in Saginaw at the Malable Iron Plant until his retirement in 1982 after more than 30 years of service. Steve was a member of State Street United Methodist Church where he served as an usher, a trustee and on the memorial committee. He enjoyed his membership in the GM Retirees Club, playing Euchre, traveling and camping. Above all, Steve enjoyed spending time with his family. Surviving besides his loving wife Dorothy is one son, Ronald (Christy) Spess of Saginaw; two daughters: Linda (Gary) Marx of East Lansing and Laura (DeWaine) Jackson of Roseburg, Oregon; four grandchildren: Elizabeth Archambault, Nicole Spess, Chayse Jackson and Christy Marx; two great-granddaughters: Sutton and Sequoia; and one sister: Marie Plaza of St. Johns. Also surviving is Dorothy’s family of one son: Duane (Janis) Jones of Jacksonville, Florida; one daughter: Jan (Ken) Knoll of Frankenmuth; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 8, 2010 at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Road (off State). Rev. Elias Mumbiro will officiate with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the Deisler Funeral Home on Sunday, November 7, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
