Passed away on Sunday, March 28, 2010 at Hoyt Nursing and Rehab Centre. She was 93 years old. Leila J. Walton was born on September 21, 1916 to the late James C. and Violet (Gallop) Walton. She was married to John F. Sonefeld on April 3, 1937 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on July 3, 1995. Leila was a charter member of St. Christopher Catholic Church. She was a caregiver her entire life and dedicated herself to helping those around her. Leila was instrumental in establishing a Chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association in Bridgeport after her son, Jim, was diagnosed. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, reading and playing bingo. Traveling to Florida was also something that Leila enjoyed doing with her husband. She also enjoyed taking Senior Trips with the retirees from Eaton. In her later years Leila was involved with the Fashionettes at Hoyt. She is survived by her three daughters, Barbara (Jerry) Rhyan of Spaulding, Nancy (James) Langer of Gladwin, and Fran (Jim) McFarland of Saginaw; seven grandchildren, Dennis (Jo) Rhyan, David (Anne) Rhyan, Dayna (Gene) Leinberger, John and Steve McFarland, Toni (Troy) Richardson, and Jeff Langer; ten great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Audrey Walton and many nieces and nephews. Leila was preceded in death by her husband, John; son, Jim E. Sonefeld; grandson, Gregory J. Langer and many brothers and sisters. Leila’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Hoyt Nursing and Rehab Centre and Southern Care Hospice for the kindness and attention given to Leila. A funeral service for Leila will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Road, (off State). Rev. Fr. Richard E. Jozwiak will officiate. Burial will be in St. Andrew Cemetery. Friends may call at the Deisler Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 30, 2010 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.; also on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
