Beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother passed away suddenly Tuesday, May 4, 2010. Age 79 years. The son of late Frank and Eva (Smeja) Slachta, Hank was born May 5, 1930 in Saginaw, Michigan. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He married Mary Margaret Grenkoski, his loving wife of 55 years, on April 23, 1955. She survives him. Hank was employed at Michigan Bell Telephone for 36 years until his retirement in 1983. He was then employed at St. Stephen Catholic Church where he was active in many committees and projects. Hank was a member of the Germania Town & Country Club, Serra Club and the Saginaw Jaycees. Surviving besides his wife Mary Margaret are two sons, one daughter and their spouses, Richard Charles and Anne Slachta, Holland, Michigan; Ronald E. and Rochelle Slachta, Netherlands; Sally and Jeffrey Tucker, Ada, Michigan; six grandchildren, Emma Slachta and her husband Carrick Davis, Stephen, Alexandra and Anicka Slachta, Harrison and Stewart Tucker; a brother, Donald C. Slachta and his companion Sally Zahnow, Saginaw; a sister, Nancy and Dennis Princing, Saginaw; a brother-in-law, Edwin Grenkoski, Jefferson City, Tennessee; several nieces and nephews. Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 8, 2010 at St. Stephen Catholic Church, 2711 Mackinaw in Saginaw. Rev. Fr. James Heller will officiate. Honoring Mr. Slachta’s wishes, cremation will follow. There will be no visiting hours at the funeral home. Friends may call at St. Stephen Catholic Church where the family will be present on Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass. A Vigil Service, led by Audrey Wilson, Pastoral Associate, will take place at 7:00 p.m. Friday in the church.
