Loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away Saturday, November 13, 2010 at the Cartwright Hospice Residence. Age 89 years. Daughter of the late Lloyd and Leafa (Fuller) Lippert, Opal was born August 1, 1921 in Alma, Michigan. She served as a W.A.C. in England and France. She was married to the love of her life, Melville E. Simpson Sr. on June 16, 1945 in Paris, France. He predeceased her April 22, 2006. Opal was formerly a manager at Federal Department Store then became a receptionist at a doctor ’s office. She enjoyed being outside and working on her flower gardens. Surviving are two daughters, Sharen L. and Tom Wiktorowski, Saginaw; Theresa M. Sherman, Maui, Hawaii; four grandchildren, Matthew (Cassandra) Wiktorowski, Pinckney; Julie Wiktorowski, Saginaw; Wesley (Cepi) Sherman, Singapore, Heidi (Anthony Crook) Sherman, Maui, Hawaii; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jean (Gale) Phillips, Oscoda; Patricia Prochazka, Texas; one brother, Rex (Phyllis) Lippert, Stanton, Michigan; several nieces and nephews. Opal was preceded in death by her son, Melville Simpson II., four sisters and two brothers. The Simpson Family would like to express a special thank you to the staff at St. Francis Home and the Cartwright Hospice Residence for the love and care they had given their mother. Military Service, conducted by American Legion Post #439, will take place at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at the Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road, Saginaw. Private burial service will take place on Wednesday at Riverside Cemetery in Alma, Michigan. Friends may call at the funeral home where the family will be present on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Francis Home or the Cartwright Hospice Residence.
